Re: OZ public liability Insurance

There are a distressing number of rumours swirling around this part of the
US concerning increases of up to tenfold in Australian Public Liability
insurance premiums and the inability of several COTMA member museums to pay
these increased premiums, with the result that some are eitheralready unable
or will soon be unable to offer demonstration rides or even access to the
public.

Specific museums named in these rumours include Bylands, St Kilda
(Adelaide), Whitman Park near Perth and a couple of the tourist steam
railways in Victoria and South Australia.

Is there any truth to any of these rumours and does the problem extend to
COTMA museums in New Zealand?

If there is truth to these rumours, how is the issue to be resolved?

On another matter, I see from this list that Melbourne PCC 1041 was towed
from Preston to Southbank in the last few days. The PCC body at Bylands,
(980) must therefore continue to be without PCC trucks or motors as 1041
must still have them. Are the Bylands people aware that PCC B2 and B3 trucks
together with motors and control packages are available in Brussels, who are
withdrawing the last of their 1950s/1960s single-car PCCs? I use the word
"available" loosely as I don't know what the terms and conditions of sale
might be, but this surely might be an opportunity to reanimate 980 with
appropriate equipment?

There are of course a considerable number of PCC B2 trucks of various gauges
and in various conditions plus motors and control packages still around here
in the US, but apart from those at Gomaco in Ida Grove (which have solid
rather than resilient wheels), they are not in the good working order that
the Brussels equipment may still be in.
