The exact impact of the new rates seems to be unclear but it is
certainly a major concern for many community organisations, not just

Various levels of government are putting new legislation in place

aspects of what can be claimed, and how easily it may be claimed,

There are a distressing number of rumours swirling around this part of the
US concerning increases of up to tenfold in Australian Public Liability
insurance premiums
The rates for public liability insurance premiums have increased very
significantly for a variety of reasons. I wouldn't say that 10 fold
is a particularly accurate figure though.
and the inability of several COTMA member museums to pay
these increased premiums, with the result that some are either already unable
or will soon be unable to offer demonstration rides or even access to the
public.
Specific museums named in these rumours include Bylands, St Kilda
(Adelaide), Whitman Park near Perth and a couple of the tourist steam
railways in Victoria and South Australia.
As policies fall due for renewal, new, higher rates are being quoted.

Is there any truth to any of these rumours and does the problem extend to
COTMA museums in New Zealand?
Perhaps someone from NZ can answer that.
