--- Wellingtons first diesels were 1936 AEC Regals with half cab
bodies built at Kilbirnie.
The AEC's developed to preselect gears and torque converters.
The Leylands stuck to crash boxes up to the OPS2 and OPS3 versions
which had synchro and were quite nice to drive ...like a big car (As
in Chevy)
The Leyland OPS 1 had a crash box. I learned how to handle one of
these owned here in Melburne by the late Allan Jungwirth.
It seems that this arrangement was fitted to tanks in WW2.....You
would not want to bugger up a gear change in the dessert with Rommel
thundering up the rear in a Panzer !!!!!
