RE:Ferny Grove, Wellington plans

Glad to have this update, Ken! I'm pleased that there is more going on than
my superficial external visit 2 years ago indicated. A line to the railway
station will be a great attraction.

BTW, something similar is in prospect for the Wellington Tramway Museum's
Kapiti Coast Electric Tramway. In Wellington's case, a road overbridge to
take State Highway 1 over the Main Trunk Railway is about to be built. It
will replace the existing level crossing (McKays Crossing) immediately
outside the entrance gates to Queen Elizabeth Park, wherein is located the
tramway. The result of this work is the opportunity for a small station on
the electric rail service to be constructed beside the present level
crossing (which will be retained for the small volume of traffic accessing
the Park) and for the tramway to be extended to it. That would give the KCET
a new market - public transport of non-motorised visitors to the Park and
the beach. At the moment the only access to the Park is via private car, and
the only reason to ride the tramway is to experience a tram ride.

Is there anyone on this list from Brisbane (not Adelaide!) who can give us
an update about Ferney Grove? I visited the site in early 2000 and peered
through the fence, but it was all shut up and didn't look much advanced

the situation reported in old "Electric Traction" mags from the early 70s.
Is that unfair? Do they operate regularly? Have the plans for a decent
length of running track been abandoned?

The Brisbane Tram Museum had a display at the Brisbane Train Show over the
May long weekend with plans and photos of the work in progress.
Earth works now done for the new workshop building. Track has been pulled
out of the stock pile including a set of 3 way points ready for the job. I
understand the museum will close for a few weeks soon while the new track
work is cut into the existing track work. Their plan is still to extend to
Ferny Grove Station and apparently most of the hurdles are now overcome.
Things are happening in the Sunshine State.
