No weekend trolleys in Wellington

Frustrating, isn't it! I have raised this publicly before without result,
and will raise it again now that I am on the Wellington Regional Land
Transport Committee (the statutory strategic planning body, run by the
Regional Council) representing public transport users etc.
At the moment, Stagecoach is not contractually obliged to run the trolleys
in the weekend and finds it cheaper to use diesels - because traction power
is currently more expensive than diesel fuel and the crowded indoor storage
arrangements now used for the trolleys (since the yard was sold for an
oldies ghetto) make it awkward to extract just a few vehicles from the
Kilbirnie depot for the reduced weekend timetables.
Cheers,
Brent Efford

Mind you, the future of the trolleys here continues to look better. Today Ithe
checked with my engineer friend who is doing the development work, and the
prototype of the next generation of Wellington trolleybuses should be on
road here in a month.
