May Day march

Saw a notice in the tram at lunch time today saying Yarra Tram city
services will be disrupted from 0700 to mid afternoon tomorrow, 1
May, for May Day celebrations!
Seems a bit much to me! Must be rather disruptive celebrations.
I can remember arriving in Lisbon, Portugal, on 1 May 1974. It was
May Day, a few days after the revolution, and a real carnival
atmosphere prevailed. Soldiers carrying machine gunes were an added
touch.
And the trams kept running! Did a fair bit of Lisbon coverage on May
Day 1974 after arriving on an overnight flight from Johannesburg.
Wonder if we will see soldiers carrying machine guns in Melbourne
tomorrow?
