The tram line along Kingsford Smith Drive to Hamilton and Ascot was closed in April 1969. I am not sure of exact opening dates, but there was definately a route along the side of the river there quite early on, probably even before the First World War.

Two routes ran along there - Ascot - Oriel Park and Ascot - Doomben, with services alternating between the two terminii from Balmoral. The last tram to leave Brisbane streets, FM 534 was the last departure from Ascot - OP and hence the last tram along Kingsford Smith Drive - late Sunday night 13 April 1969.

Subject: [TramsDownUnder] Brisbane Tram line Question

Hi
We are trying to date a photo of Brisbane and we know its pre'55 . The
pic shows Kingsford Smith Drive at Hamiliton and there are no tram
lines showing (cant see the road itself in pic). I'm postive that a
tram ran along there . Possibly the tram wasnt put in till post WWW2 .
Does anybody know any info regarding this , thanks .
In my search I discovered this url http://freepages.tech.rootsweb.com/
~mottramcj/BRIS/BRIS.HTM  doesnt help in my search but brought back a
lot of memories
cheers
