The VR cars from Elwood depot when required to go to Newport Workshop were towed from St Kilda Station to the workshops over the railway system after last trains had ran early hours of the morning, and returned the same way.Where the VR cars shunted outside the railway station the track extended through a gate into the railway yard this was the conection to the main system. The VR trams were 5'3" guage.the shallow wheel flanges of the trams did create problems during transfere's of trams and the connection was not used too often. The Vr trams ceased operating on 28th Feburary 1959.

The Sandringham VR trams were standard guage 4'81/2"same as the M.M.T.B.The Vr trams at Sandringham ceased on 5th November 1956.Trucker Graeme.
