It would be worth noting that the curve from Fletcher St into

Pascoe

Vale Road was under about 8-12" of water, as the camber of the

curve

creates a weir effect and traps any rainwater that falls inside the
curve until enough cars aquaplane through it to disperse the water
into parts of the road that actually do have drainage..

For a slightly more humerous aspect to the situation, the tram that
derailled in a puddle was the Melbourne Water ad tram :-)
