Essendon derailment.

Maybe the passage of the first two trucks round the curve washed some crap into the groove, enough to derail the third truck, not much excuse for dragging a derailed truck 300 metres, even if it rolled easy you'd get a shock if you looked in the rear vision mirror, anyone know what sort of penalty would apply given that they can't put you back on the bag these days.A few years ago a B2 derailed inbound at Spencer and Collins all axles,it was so close to the kerb I thought it was a bus[well almost]obviously very excessive speed, first truck took the straight, points changed and second and third trucks took the curve, fortunately it was late on a Sunday night, last up car I think, and no other vehicles were involved, bloody lucky,as I remember the driver involved lost about a day and a halfs pay then went training as a bus driver,in effect no penalty for what was just about a sackable offence,I wonder what will happen under the privatised regime.Peter,I presume tramway staff were supervising the rerailing.I know at one stage in the PTC days it was seriously proposed to outsource breakdown and recovery functions, some bullshit about them not being a core activity I suppose, just like selling tickets when you think about it.M&MTB management was far from perfect but at least they knew they were managing a tramway not just a business entity.Modern,so-called,management practice really shits me,hopefully our tramways will survive it.Ah well, thats got that off my puny chest.Regards all,Peter Bruce.
