About 6.30pm tonight an up B class articulated rounded the curve
from Fletcher St into Pascoe Vale Rd at some speed.

It would be worth noting that the curve from Fletcher St into Pascoe
Vale Road was under about 8-12" of water, as the camber of the curve
creates a weir effect and traps any rainwater that falls inside the
curve until enough cars aquaplane through it to disperse the water
into parts of the road that actually do have drainage..

Well, the first two bogies rounded the curve. The bogie
under the final section left the rails and carved a new
third (almost perfectly parallel) track down Pascoe Vale
Rd for about 300 metres. Driver appears not to have
noticed ... until the rear section hit the Safety Zone
prow at Buckley St and mounted it!

Aah.. that explains all the panelling damage.. I didn't quite know
what to make of that last night given that the rear of the tram was
on the other side of the rails to the safety zone prow...

It's now 8.30pm and the car is back on the rails but still no
regular service. Driver has not been sighted recently.

I believe they only had enough collective brainpower to manage one
shunt (the one at Moonee Ponds Junction) and they bustituted the rest
of the way to Airport West... When I was waiting at Essendon Station
the only sign of trams were two that they wanted to get out towards
the depot on bang road.. There was no sign of buses until at least
7.30pm though...

Interesting to watch two heavy recovery tow trucks trying to move a
tram - wonder what happened to the old crew who operated R10 and
knew how to get a tram back on the rails?

(My first post - sorry, no camera to record the carnage!)

I probably would have gone home and gotten mine, seeing as I live
about 100m from there, except I was too interested in watching the
proceedings.. :-)
