Apparently Sydney tram and bus tickets were coded so that a track could be kept on revenue per depot and mode. I suspect that on the ticket shown below (from the Internet) the DX may well have been a ticket sold from Dowling Street.
Anyway many years ago Arthur Perry told me that around 1950 he and friends like Noel Reed had noticed that the wrong types of tickets were being used on trams and buses to manipulate statistics to show a greater revenue from buses, and a lower revenue raised on trams.
