I'm sure that if Parramatta Council had known years ago that there would be
a tram line along Church St, they could have controlled the development on
the other side of the road to enable it to skirt around the hotel. But they
understandably didn't anticipate that (because trams were only back on the
agenda 10 years ago) and consequently a multi-storey building was built on
the other side and the outcome was inevitable. Church St has to be
converted from two lanes to four lanes either way, that was inevitable and
a bit difficult to anticipate in the 1790s when the street was laid out and
development followed.
