Thanks, Graeme.

Agree that driving trolley buses is good training for regular bus drivers.
It develops your situational awareness.

I was always looking through my internal mirror to keep the trolley ropes
vertical when going around corners, that sort of thing.

I miss driving the bastards. Our Marmon-Herringtons in San Francisco were OK
without power steering (a bit like an M&MTB MK III) but our St Louis' were
bloody awful. If you didn't get the steering wheel cranked out away from the
kerb in a bus stop before the wheels stopped turning, you were stuffed.

I think those trolley buses you shot were real good looking.

There would be NO problem getting back to NZ......
I owe a lot of people MONEY :))))

No, the pics are not glass plate, just normal old 35 mm B/W negs.

With that scanner, you can muck around with the shots to get them
right, beats the hell out of the old darkroom sloshing about in the
dark and trying to get exposures correct.
By printing them on Photo paper, the result is almost as good as a
normal photo.

Re the Trolley Buses, As I mentioned some time back all NZ trolleys
up to the later Wellington Volvos had the power pedal on the left and
brake on the right of the steering wheel.
There was no power steering either...The English buses were so well
ballanced that they did not require it. Also they had steel springs.

The reason that TB 47 looks a bit like it should have been an AEC,
was that in reality it was.....The 9711T chasssis was an AEC model
for the "Home" market.

I often fantasize that I am driving a trolley when driving my MBL MAN
through the City or over the Westgate !!! (Bracket arms would look
good up there.) I am quite sure that after driving trolleys you can
appreciate your speeds better doing turns etc and this results in a
more comfortable ride for the passengers.
