World's Greatest International Tram Driver

Further to the discussion about "beautiful" trams and
people, there is a picture of Hugh Waldron on page 58
of the March 2001 issue of Transit Australia.
The article describes Hugh's assignment to the
Birmingham light rail system last year.
I believe the "International" was added to Hugh's
title as the World's Greatest Tram Driver to recognise
the completion of his National Express assignment in
Birmingham.
Hugh originall lived and worked in Sydney but came to
Melbourne in the early 1980s to fulfil his lifetime
ambition to become a "trammie".
He originally worked at Kew where he was (and still
is) locally known as "the Professor". The Transit
Australia article says Hugh is now the Senior Driver
at Malvern depot.
But he is internationally recognised as the World's
Greatest Tram Driver. There was a reference to this on
an international tram web page some time ago; can't
recall the URL.
Paul in Melbourne.
