Amazing how many "Graemes" there are out there !!!
Answering your question re the cars on the farm at Oakura, which is
about 18 K.s from new Plymouth....
2 and 3 were in one paddock used as pigstys
10 was nearby in another paddock ....calves for the use of.
All three purchased by a Mr Honeyfield ... 70 NZ pounds each for 2&3.
Bogie car 10 was the most expensive at 115 NZ pounds, and was the
last car to operate in service on 23th July 1954.
I made regular pilgrimages to the trams every time I went back to New
Plymouth over the years after I shifted to Wellington ..... up to
1974... then I left NZ to move to Melbourne to drive trams.
As the other "Graemes" have pointed out, the body of Birney No 8 is
at Wellington Tramway Museum in poor condition having been retrieved
from a farm near the country town of Eltham. Parts of No 9 were saved
also. these two Birneys were used as shearers accomodation and they
were set up in an "L " shape.
