Thank you, Mal.

Is it confirmed that Balaclava Junction will remain a grand union when
relaid? I understand there is a general tendency in Melbourne to not replace
seldom-used special work when track is rebuilt, to save money and get the
operational and maintenance advantages of simpler infrastructure (as has
happened with our trolleybus overhead in Wellington). I presume not all the
curves are regularly used, so there will be the temptation to not replace
them. Like phasing out trolley poles, it would be a pity for us tram buffs,
but I can understand why they would want to do it.

Cheers,

Brent Efford

Balaclava Junction should be about twelve to
fourteen months away.
That will be a BIG job.

Though some readers might like to see Balaclava
Junction (Melbourne's Grand Union). Here's today's
pic - from the North East corner.
