There has got to be some good stories that can be
told about the shoe shop. I wonder how many shoes
got sold?

It was also the 30th anniversary of the end of conductors on buses in

last "connies"?
There were people at the shoe shop who never forgave Gough Whitlam
for destroying "real" (i.e. W2) trams in Melbourne. The replacement
trams (i.e. Z class) were considered to be buses.

Today marks the 30th anniversary of election of the Whitlam Govt.
Although some readers could consider this off topic or too
political I find it is significant to tramways in Australia, because
the Whitlam Govt kickstarted the financing of the Z class trams.
Though the majority of tram fans despise the Z class trams, the entry
into service of these vehicles saved the Melb system.
What is not widely known that in the same month the victorian state
cabinet by a majority of one voted to retain the Melb Tramway
system,
and acquire the 100 Z class trams.
