A belated contribution to the discussion re Hawthorn and Rt.27.The
two curves at Riversdale Rd and Power St were much sharper,Hawthorn
cars terminated in Power St.,there would have been enough room to fit
at least two cars between the crossover and the actual junction I
think,Destination City doesn't show a crossover outside the Depot
itself, just a trailing entry from the up track, doesn't seem right!!
were the two nearest crossovers Bendigo St. and Glenferrie Rd?Anyone
who was a trammie back then went first to 616 Little Collins St.to
join up and have a very cursory medical and then you were given a
ticket to go out to Hawthorn to pick up your uniform,I think the
connies school was there too in the 60s,certainly the drivers school
was.I remember the 3 days at the drivers school,it was fun but I
cannot remember anything about going to connies school,Paul N.,Brian
W. maybe you can help. Before the relay of the curves at the corner I
am sure there was a very elegant flight of steps leading to double
doors at the NE corner of the building, they were demolished to make
way for the more gradual curves.Hmmm,I seem to be asking more
questions than I am making contributions, got any photos Jeff??Peter
Bruce.
