There is a large program of works scheduled this weekend. Details
are listed below, copied from M>Tram's Media releases.

Note that the Malvern and Glenferrie works include new curves on the
South-East side of the intersection which will enable cars to proceed
directly from Glenferrie Road towards Camberwell.

I understand that there are also works at Malvern Depot where the fan
in front of the new shed is being renewed.

Monday, 18 November, 2002 : Major tram track works 23 24 November

M>Tram will be undertaking major tram track works on St Kilda Rd and
at the intersection of Glenferrie and Malvern Rds on 23 24
November.

Tracks on St Kilda Rd from Commercial Rd to Roy St and from Southbank
Blvd to Grant St will be reconstructed at a cost of around $600,000.
This involves the complete removal and reconstruction of the tracks
and their concrete foundations.

The tracks at the intersection of Glenferrie and Malvern Rds will be
reconstructed at a cost of just under $900,000. This work involves
the reconstruction of the `H' crossing, where the two tram lines
intersect, along with the curved section of tracks linking the two
lines. Track curves and `H' crossings tend to experience greater wear
than other tram tracks.

M>Tram Managing Director, Peter McKenzie, said the works were part of
M>Tram's ongoing infrastructure improvement program.

"We have a long standing commitment to investing in our network and
this program is continuing," he said.

"St Kilda Rd is one of our busiest tram thoroughfares and we would
expect these works to improve the `quality of the ride' for our
customers.

"At the same time, the works at Glenferrie and Malvern Rds will
improve this intersection both for our customers and for other road
users."
