My reply was a considered one, based upon a 35-year career in
practical engineering and research, including hazard/
risk assessment and a long period of tertiary teaching in
mathematics, probability and statistics.

All well and good, but the reported reason for the discontinuance is
related to insurance. The issue is not risk in an engineering sense,
it is risk in an insurance sense, which includes consideration actual
relevant past claims experience as well as any advised risk assement
for the activity.

Don't confuse the logic of mathematics with the politics of "safety
management" by public servants who have vested (but usually unstated)
interest in ensuring the tenure of their own jobs.

Since it was M>Tram, a private company, that has made the decision to
discontinue tram hire, your tirade against public servants is wasted.

Cheers,

Bill
