The stuff you put in your car is actually called gasoline, gas for short
("I've got to gas up my car.")

The stuff that works your cook stove (range) is natural gas (also gas for short.)
The stuff you put in your lantern is kerosine (your paraffin.) Jet fuel is basically clean of kerosine.
Diesel trucks use diesel fuel.
They all come from crude.
