Here's a 1910 pic showing the Essendon depot/power
house/cooling tower from Royal Park, about 2km East of
the depot.

The 1906 carbarn remains today, but the power house
etc are long gone. The building to the left of the
carbarn is the Sisters or Mercy convent - about to be
redeveloped (in 2002) as housing.

The "Mental Hospital" in the foreground is to be
re-developed as the 2006 Commonwealth Games Village.

Pic is from "Federation Times in Essendon and
Flemington", edited by Leonore Frost and published in
2001 by Essendon Historical Society Inc ISBN 1 876765
02 X

Check out http://home.vicnet.net.au/~diahannn/ehs.htm
and look at their "Virtual Museum" for a nice pic of a
NMET&L Co crossbench car in Racecourse Rd.

Here's a test for you ... which other pic on the EHS
Virtual Museum page is NMET&L Co related??

The book has several other excellent tram pics,
including a reproduction of the Puckle St tram pic I
posted a week or so ago. As it is still in print I
encourage you to buy a copy!
