This is from an old fuzzy postcard probably
taken probably from a Tiger Moth above the Borough of New
Plymouth.
I would date it very late 40's.
The photographer is looking due West.
The main street, Devon Street is to left of centre
running straight up the picture, and two trams on the Port - Fitzroy service can
be seen.
One at Liardet Street, the other turning into
Egmont Street.
The Westown line can be seen continuing up Devon
Street, past the Post office clock tower.
The Port tram turns right into Egmont Street toward
the railway station where two 45 degree turns will take it into St Aubyn St
passing the City bus depot.
This line ran to a point near the wharves under the
shadow of Paratutu rock.
The railway yards curving from the station to the
centre of the picture were once part of the old line into New Plymouth which
bisected Devon Street on a level crossing (Pre trams)
