A significant part of the State Transit bus fleet in Sydney is now

See... http://www.sydneybuses.nsw.gov.au/sb.fleet.html

While you are there, make sure to check out "11: Mercedes Benz Mk5

where do we fuel them

Presumably at the bus depots/garages. Is that a problem?

While the street gradients generally aren't on quite the same scale an
S.F., none the less Sydney is quite a hilly city and good hill
climbing ability has always been an essential characteristic for any
successful Sydney street transit vehicle design!

The pro-CNG-at-any-cost types don't have answers for

This is perhaps a local political issues?!? There is not any sort of
technical issues as far as I'm aware!
