Yes - a delightful and informative photo. I shall try to oblige with a
'today' shot if I get the opportunity (now how many is that I have promised
... ???)

Noteworthy on the left of the photo is the massive reclamation which
provided the site for the current railyards (and, now, stadium). A seawall
was constructed to the left, out of the photo, and fill (mainly from the
Tawa tunnels which were bored at the same time) deposited behind it. Of all
the reclamations which provided the flat land of central Wellington, this
was by far the largest.

Cheers,

Brent Efford

This picture I sent to Richard de Armond's trolley bus site quite a while
ago.

Taken in the early 30's shows Wellington from a point near Kiawharawhara,
which would be behind the viewer.
The camera is facing South looking towards Thorndon.

Splendid picture, Graeme. The same shot is printed in Geoffrey Churchman's
book
on the Wellington-Johnsonville Railway (attributed to the Turnbull Library)
but
a lot more detail can be got out of yours..

I'd like to say that I can see both trolley overheads, but in fact can make
out
only the one on the right. And shall have to take your word for it that the
tiny vehicle is the trackless tram.
