I can understand - I have had the same experience on each of my visits to
Melbourne. Casual visitors are not likely to get a very good impression of
the fan fraternity from that shop! Nor has my friend David Jones, the author
of several booklets on NZ trams and Aust & NZ trolleybuses, had a happy
experience with the shop as a retailer of his output.
I have had a much happier experience with the shop on Hawthorn Road on the
East Brighton route. I discovered it by chance by leaving the tram at the
terminus and walking back up the road to get pictures as the tram returned
to the city. I bought a videotape there and tried it in the hotel that
night. It was full of static, so I took it back the next day. They swapped
it very cheerfully, which leaves a good impression, so I bought several
extra items as well.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the update on the old Coburg depot, interesting depot
shame it's not put some good use.
Yes, I hate going into the railfan shop, the manager is not
interested in what the clintel wants, he just follows people around
the shop saying "how are you" at the top of his voice and woe betide
you if you ignore him, he is a bloody embarrasment when interstae or
overseas people come in and he asks them all sorts of personal
questions, I've seen people just turn around and walk out, he is rude
and interfering and I avoid the place like the plague, I once got a
number of books and mags through there and now get none, it's about
time the ARE did something about him, the last time I was in there
was in fact, the LAST TIME.
