Just found this shot again,
From the collection of NZR publicity
department.
Taken from a nearby hotel to show the yard
area.
This was once part of the NZR line and was the
location of TE ARO station.
Some of the buildings in the background still had
tracks in the floor at this time, especially the vege markets in the next street
which led to Cable Street depot.
The NZR still owned much of this land until
privatisation.
The line continued from Lambton Station (Replaced
by the present building) and ran side of road up to Te Aro, and even earlier had
gone right round to Oriental Bay.
