Re: Grinder from Ron 1

Here's a shot of Grinder 1 at work - February 1967 at
the corner of Victoria Pde and Nicholson St. (Ignore
the Nov in the pic title - I misread the date!)

The 'truck' nearest the cabin was the driving truck
while the truck nearest the camera was towed. It had
the grinding wheels - driven by rope and pulleys from
the main body of the car.

University of Melbourne Mechanical Engineering
students used to have a regular excursion to Hannah St
depot to see the different forms of mechanical drive
on this car, which included (at least)

Rope & pulley
Gears
Screw
Chain (as in bicycle)

The grinding truck has a proud place in the Bylands
display while the car body is less salubriously
displayed outdoors.

Well worth a visit! ... any Sunday.
