In September 1969 I started work at 3AW in La Trobe Street. One of my
first shifts used to start at 1700 and officially finish at 0030 but
I used to get away by about 0015 (to the taxi waiting outside).
Quite often there would be this amazing noise - one of the grinders
on its way from South Melbourne to the overnight work scene. The
noise was incredible as it moved at snail's pace. Pity local
residents who might be trying to sleep in houses near where the work
was being done.
