There will be substantial tram alterations for today's Grand Final
parade through the city of Melbourne.
Do the tram companies have to "pay" for not providing the advertised
service on such occasions? Or are the "public notices" in the
newspaper the way around it?
I notice the East Burwood/North Balwyn cars that are being terminated
at Flinders Street are running an additional shuttle to Simpson
Street. Also the route 70 cars are going to run a short working to
Vodaphone Arena. Presumably this is to maintain the timetabled paths
of the cars.
Barriers had been erected along Macarthur Street as I made my way to
work this morning. There was a "Zoom Zoom Marshall" watching over the
barriers near the St Andrews Place pedestrian crossing.
"Zoom Zoom Marshall" is a new term for me. Does anyone know what it
means? The guy had a cap with a microphone/speaker attached similar
to the "marshalls" that superintended the Labor Day parade last March.
Being a non football fan I find it outrageous that the city is
brought to a standstill, peaceful law-abiding citizens inconvenienced
and tram services disrupted, so people can gawk at a parade of
football players.
