Interesting picture.  The gum trees in the background look to be the ones that are still there in front of what is now a motel.
 
Note the tram run number disc hanging in the driver's cab.  I always thought it curious that while M was for Malvern (depot), GH for Glen Huntly and so on, Camberwell was/is V and South Melbourne's was A.

Many moons ago when I first escaped from New Zealand, I passed through Melbourne in December 1963 on way to seek my fortune and happiness on a working holiday in Great Britain.
The good ship "Gallileo Gallalei" ,  a new ship of the Lloyd Triestino line, dropped me at Station Pier from where I did a lightning day of tram gunzelling and riding around the City.
When checking pictures last night, I see that at some stage that day I actually rode on a No 7 tram.............No 415.
