Not only was the U there but Q199? was also being restored under the same programme. There has been no news in Trolley Wire about it since the trams were moved there last year some time...

Subject: [TramsDownUnder] Another remnant (?) - Nth Fitzroy depot

Possibly we have a definitional issue here.  From an operational
point of view, North Fitzroy depot is definitely a remnant.  I don't
have its closing date to hand, but I think it was last used as an
operational depot in the early '90s before National Bus Company moved
into the co-located bus depot / workshops.

However this depot is still physically connected to the system
although the track grooves are filled with muck.  And as far as I am
aware, it still houses a privately preserved W2 class tram.  Also the
TMSV U class single trucker was being restored there - not sure
whether or not this project is finished.  Does the fact that Nth
Fitzroy could potentially be used as a depot again and is being used
to store historic trams preclude its classication as a remnant?

Pedants and/or obscurantists are welcome to clarify the definition of
a remnant.

Can any TUDites also advise whether the W2 and /or the U class trams
are still at Nth Fitzroy.

Cheers,

Brian Weedon
