nine years old) were supposed to have been Melbourne's
21st-century car? Purely for the low-floor?

There is no local low floor design and the operators involved are
both
associated with different European vehicle builders with "off the
shelf" low floor designs. Anyway, the writing has been on the wall
for nearly 70 years as far as the sustainability of "single city"
car
designs are concerned.

a. west of downtown and why do the 70s only go just a little way
on
the Flinders extn, and the ? (forgotten)line only to the end of
the
new Bourke Street bridge by the new Stadium? Where and when are
the
cars going to go on the new Bridge west of Collins and where has
all
the money come from for this massive investment in infrastructure?

There is lot more general development work to be done in the
Docklands
area. The trams will be extended to run through the area as
development starts to occur. Someone from Melbourne can tell you
the
proposed timetable for that.

As far as funding goes....

.... though as usual with private sector development the phase
"minimal cost to the taxpayers of.... " is open to fairly wide
interpretation!

b. In the eastern suburbs and on the Burwood line? Surely these
light
rail lines are now getting so long that passengers at their outer
ends
would be better served by quicker suburban trains?

Not too many passengers would ride the entire length of many of
those
routes. Most have several traffic generation points along them and
"local" traffic between those points is justification enough for
their
being built. Its been a very long time since Melbourne built any
new
heavy suburban rail routes and given the current operating franchise
arrangements, its hard to see anything happening in that respect
anytime soon (if ever).

What's happening with the TMSV and at Haddon? There are rumors,
which
are always unhelpful, but no hard information.

I'd like to know too!

Cheers,

Bill

Bill,
>According to the latest Running Journal, the Jordan group now
control the T.M.S.V. This means that no merger will now take place
with M.T.P.A.,Haddon. As my brother,Lindsay is a part owner of
Haddon,he would not have agreed to any merger wih any other groups
especially the T.M.S.V.,
