Tangos

Now there was an interesting job.
At Brunswick, we ran the Tango from Brunswick depot across to Holmes
Ave.
This was to connected the East Coburg car to Sydney Road via Moreland
Road after the through car stopped running in the evenings.
Crew changes were also achieved using this car.
I remember doing the late night second half on this run as being the
most soul destroying job I ever encountered.
Remember back then (1974)the car had to shunt at the depot at Cameron
Street......Then shunt again in Holmes Road five minutes later to
connect with the Lygon St car.
Then it was back to Sydney Road again, and again!!!
The stories one could tell about the Brunswick tango would fill a
book !!
However, in the cold light of day, and after much consideration, I
feel that 90% of them must remain memories of those who were there.
Not that anything "Shifty" went on ... mind you!!!
I reckon though, our brothers at Preston doing the "Hump" tango,
would have had an even worse time connecting St George's road with
Plenty Road, At least at Brunswick we could get the tram into
parallel.
