The old North Carlton cable buildings are still there
at the North end of Rathdowne St - now very attractive
accommodation.

No sign of tram lines nearby - the old North Carlton
line was rendered obsolete by the nearby Lygon St
electric line and never replaced. There is a still a
bus service past the door.

North Carlton was one of only two locations in
Melbourne where the car shed and the winding house
were co-located. Usually the car shed was at the end
of the line and the winding house mid-way - with
separate ropes in to the city and out to the terminus.
