There was a major disruption in Collins Street during the peak hour
last night, Friday 26 July 2002.
Trams in both directions were diverted via Spencer and La Trobe
Streets so we saw the fairly rare sight of a tram in service (112)
using the new connection from Victoria Parade to platform 3 and
the "St Vincents Plaza" super stop.
I was waiting at St Andrews Place (Parliament Station) for some time
between 1730 and 1800. Eventually, two Yarra Trams attendants walked
by and suggested passengers walk to St Vincents Plaza.
Later on, while dining in a Vietnamese restaurant in Victoria Street
(Loi Loi - excellent food and tram views), I noticed a short working
to Deepdeene and several to Kew Depot. The Deepdeene did not use the
traditional route number 45. I have noticed that when trams are
turned back to Balwyn they tend to use a blank route number rather
than 44. Is it Yarra Trams policy not to use route numbers for short
workings?
