Inverters on Melbourne trams

Hi all,
A first time message which is a question. If anyone can advise or answer please do so.
I have been asked by a friend in Denver Colorado, who is helping restore Denver & Golden interurban car 25 what may seem an elementary question but so far have not found anyone who knows yes or no in spite of asking some well known identities round the traps.
Question is: Do any cars running now or ever in the past on the Melbourne system have a 600:24V inverter to provide low voltage control power, also a battery to provide 24V power to the controls for a get home situation to depot or suitable layby if the inverter fails.
I know all Z, A, B, etc. cars have battery power to maintain lights, door functioning, security etc. in event of power failure or pantograph/trolley pole failure but doubt if that would allow "get home" capability as well. If anyone can say definitely yes or no to above question with "documentary evidence" please do so on site or to me at
Denver & Golden car 25 is a large typical American interurban car being restored on a secure site in suburban Denver. I last saw it in July 2000 and it was well advanced in restoration after being found somewhere as a deteriorated body. If anyone on site is in the area and wants to see the car or contact those working on it please ask. At present it is not open for public inspection. Any replies will be onforwarded to Denver.
Thanks very much,
John Fitzsimons.
