While out and about, also visited the recently-completed works at the corner of Swanston and Victoria Sts. Apologies for the quality - it was getting late and the sun had disappeared behind some buildings.
The 'A' photo (taken from Victoria St, looking S down the main section of Swanston St) shows the path of the tracks that used to take trams onto Victoria St. I believe this is to be turned into a small park.
The 'B' photo (also looking south) shows three tracks at the start of Swanston St North. The nearest track goes around the corner into Victoria St, behind me as I took the photo.
The 'C' photo shows the widened footpath on Swanston St North, and the old signal box.
The 'D' photo, taken from the corner of Franklin and Swanston Sts looking north, shows the junction. The points are immediately north of the end of the northbound stop at Franklin St. The two tracks overlap each other across the intersection, then diverge
around the corner into Swanston St North. Note also the sign warning of the 'unusual' automatic points. What does the diamond light indicate?
