The only important feature the press release has missed out isTrack
scrubbing? Is it a feature of the "Swiss Army Knife".looking
As a note of interest many Tramways such as Wellington and Auckland
had hand held grinder sets that vaguely ressembled an awkward
wheelbarrow, so there is nothing new about a "Non flanged" grinder.M-

I presume the replacementvehicle is a truck rather than a tram.. . .
Its hard to imagine how a rubber-tired vehicle could be an
effective scrubber (or "rail grinder" in the US), even with a
hi-rail" set up.
Weren't the Melbourne scrubbers out almost every day in the
'80s?

M-Tram has released details of the replacement vehicle. The
following has been extracted from the Mediaa releases section of
rideTram's web site.so
Brian Weedon
"The new vehicle has been nicknamed the `Swiss Army Knife' it hasmany features. The biggest advance in this vehicle is its `highrail'facility. It can either run along the rails as a tram does or
onalongsidestandard tyres, leaving the rails free to be cleaned.
Features of the new vehicle:
A rubbish nozzle which sucks ups leaves and other rubbish
maintenancethe tracks
An on-board high-pressure cleaning system which allows
staff to clean graffiti from signs and tram stops
A boom hose specifically designed to clean the areas below ground
which house the point equipment at track intersections
A full width suction nozzles, which runs across the back of the
vehicle specifically to lean (sic) the tracks of debris.
The new vehicle is owned and operated by Thiess Infraco, M>Tram's
infrastructure maintenance partner."
