Hello all

321, located at MOTAT in Auckland is currently in the process of being spray
painted by volunteers of the Western Springs Tramway after a four year
overhaul. Windows and other external fittings have been pre-fitted and
painted, which should expedite a speedy reassembly into 1972-1980 condition
(with a varnished ceiling replacing the 1969 colour fleck). Directly after
painting and sign writing of the M&MTB decals is complete, 321 will be
lifted on her replacement overhauled Melb 1A trucks.

The overhaul has involved a strip down to frame work level with cabs
removed, replacement of one headstock and Motorman's floor. All steel
panelling, canvas, roof bridges and window frames have been replaced.
Interior colour fleck stripped and the ceiling re-varnished, seats
re-covered, strap hanger fittings and brass bell rope holes reclaimed and
brass work polished and lacquered. Not to forgetting new leather work,
replica 1972 Motorman Door Maps and photo engraved Holden & GE Controllers
makers plates & "No Spitting" signage reproduced.

I will advice once a re-launch date has been decided on.

Cheers
David Cawood
