It's unfortunate, not ironic. St Kilda has the same problem, but it was not our choice. None of the inner councils wanted a tram museum. They were busy ripping the street sysstem up at the time. We had to go wherever we could find somewhere, and the only location available was (and still is) in the middle of nowhere.
