Watch out for some video footage appearing on the net of the Light
Rail/Trolleys in both LA and San Diego, as well as some on-trip
shots. :-)
LAPD cops are heavily armed, well trained, not afraid to assert their
authority and are hence quite imposing. MTA Subway cars and Light
Rail vehicles and stations are under surveillance. Provided you
don't provoke anyone, they tend to respect the consequences of that
surveillance and keep to themselves, at least while on MTA turf, but
don't expect them to stop looking tough, especially around their
friends.
Now that's a way to design a bus - enter via the rear door, dump your
luggage in the racks that take up a quarter of the bus, and find all
the seats are full, so sit on the racks next to your baggage :-)
Security issues while travelling via Light Rail and connecting
services is hardly off topic. Anyone care to disagree?

It was a novel way of returning from San Diego: Coaster/
Metrolink (via San Bernardino), red line, blue line, green
line and MTA bus.

The blue/green transfer station was busy (it was about 2100
[9.00 pm]) and some of the people looked rather scary but
overall it was OK.

We used the G [airport] shuttle in 1996 when we had a four
hour transit at LAX. It was a convenient way to sample the
[new at the time] green line.

We've got a little off topic here of course.
