The areas served by the Blue and Green lines are rather tacky by
Melbourne standards. But we did not forget we were visiting the

If the areas are the same as when we went on holidays to the US in 1986, I doubt that Melbourne has anything that comes too close to being as grotty and squalid as much of LA seems to be. Some would argue the western suburbs (especially around Footscray) are probably a bit iffy, but I can't say that anybody I've known from the west have been anything other than normal people.

I suppose Sydney's west around Cabramatta, Liverpool and Bankstown would probably be areas to avoid but even then the perceived dangers vary from those who don't live around the area saying how dangerous it is, whilst a young female I used to work with had absolutely no qualms about catching PT home late at night through the area, changing to a bus at Liverpool and walking 15 minutes or so from the bus stop.
