US/Australian cultural observations

I was amazed at the interesting turn the discussion of the W2s in
Memphis and can understand the frustration of the moderator.
But a wonderful thing about this list is that the discussion does
broaden from time to time: away from the traditional "engineering"
or "operational" aspects of trams.
With a good mix of Australian and US correspondents there are sure to
be some interesting cultural differences especially with the
international/multicultural perspective of Australians compared with
the more parochial outlook of the average American. I've travelled to
the United States several times mainly to ride on the various transit
systems. But the cultural differences are almost as interesting as
the trams!
So let's hope we can afford to loosen up from time to time without
getting too far "off topic"!
And if there are any US fans heading down under I'm sure there
several of us who could enjoy going "off topic" over a
few "cleansers" at one of the hundreds of bars and pubs along our
tram routes. Can't beat a cool beer in a bar with trams trundling by!
