I've known Peter since 1968 or so, Don. We were involved in all sort of political stuff, especially pertaining to the SF Municipal Railway when I was an operator there. We stayed up entire nights working on information to be used in court, and to make up and distribute flyers about the then pending "run cuts" the city under then Mayor Joe Alioto were trying to impose on the Muni Railway. Peter and I have history and have seen each other under great pressure. Neither of us was found wanting.

He was one of the few people who attended when I was married in 1973.

I've voluntarily left several lists in the last two weeks because I have to focus more on my work. One more doesn't matter. I thoroughly enjoy these lists and most people get a bang out of my input. But they are a luxury. I have a vigorous personal and intellectual life. So I am free to enjoy myself here and not be overly concerned about some other people's exaggerated sense of propriety.

One of the reasons I left the US and settled in Oz is the well known "Irony Deficiency" so many Americans I knew suffered from, and their tendency towards fundamentalism and political correctness. 'Specially the cornfed ones from places where "creationism" has a place in institutions of "learning".

Because I kidded Peter about his welcome back doesn't mean I did not hear him and it doesn't mean his point was not taken. And he knows that.

Cheers,

Bob Murphy

You had better be careful.  I got kicked off the Milwaukee Road List for mentioning polkas.  Then someone started a new Milwaukee List and half the traffic moved over there.  Some people use dial up connections and have to pay for time used.  Extra and long message cost these people money.  On the other hand, it is a hobby which is meant for fun.  So balance is the best answer.
