The
terminus that is still largely in situ is actually the truncated terminus
established in 1966 to allow room for the express bus service to terminate. The
original terminus was at Mayfield Road and was provided with an equalateral
single track terminus. The 'new' terminus track was the down line, with the up
line cut to swing into the down track. Therefore when you look at the trackwork
still remaining in the concrete underneath parked cars, you will see a small
length of isolated up track. I have a number of photos of the second terminus,
but does anyone have photos showing the original one?
I
last saw the site in 1990, but presume little has changed as the traffic islands
and carparking bumpers had already been installed by this time. I will try to
pull out some photos of the track from 1990 and post on this site
ASAP...

The route number of the Belmont service was 06, and
the terminus and about two kilometers of reservation
in Old Cleveland Rd still exist, though the BCC has
placed traffic islands across the tracks at certain
intersections. The cityxpress bus stop in Old
Cleveland Rd opposite the tram terminus is named
Carina. There is a branch of the BCC library in
Mayfield St, a couple of hundred metres down the hill
from the shops, which has an excellent photo of a FM
car at the terminus on display.
Dave in Brisbane.
