see more about this great system at TDU,it really left all the other
Australian systems well and truly in the shade,I never saw it at
first hand.Paul N.,what was that you were telling us in the boozer
last night about Easter,1924 was it??.I love Melbourne, the city and
its tramways but I know I really missed something not seeing Sydney

There's a photo or two of that work in the south-western lines by
David
Keenan.

That was one massive job!

Thank you for all these photos and info, Malcolm.

I am one of those who find the rails and wire part of tramways as
fascinating as the cars, so this is all great stuff. As you will
have
gathered, I am intrigued by the way in which the contractors can
blitz a
track relay job and get the whole lot done in a weekend (or 4
days
in this
case). This job is much bigger than the usual replacement of
ordinary
straight track (or a new track, as recently in Whitehorse Rd).

Is this the biggest job to be done in one hit?

Can't find my reference book at the moment (drat) but the NSW
Tramways relaid the junction of Enmore Road, King Street and the
entrance to Newtown Depot over a weekend in the 1920s. This would
have been a bigger job and done mainly with manual labour.

I know I have seen a photo of the work underway, anyone have a
photo?
