The term "gunzel:" has become a general description for transport
enthusiasts in Australia.

It's original connotation was less than complimentary - to describe
the "scruffy" members of the enthusiast movement. Much like the
terms "foamer" in the United States and "anorak" in the United
Kingdom. But in recent times it's become a term used, especially
within the transport industry, to describe enthusiasts in general.

There were certainly a good few "scruffy" gunzels around yesterday
(they stand out in a crowd!) but as Greg mentioned everyone was well
behaved and helped make it the wonderful day that it was for the
general community and, dare I say it, the more "mainstream"
enthusiasts!

The main thing about 1692 running in Melbourne yesterday was that it
was a community event rather than something put on just for the
gunzels. And that's the way it turned out!

I am hopeful that the people who might make the decisions to hold any
similar community events in the future will be impressed by
yesterday's effort. As mentioned previously, congratulations to
everyone involved in arranging the event.
