According to an old South Pacific Electric railway
guide:

Until 1930
New South Wales Government Railways

Until 1932
Tramways Management Board of the Metropolitan Tramways
Trust
Until 1952
Department of Road Transport and Tramways
Then ... briefly ... Department of Goverment Tram and
Omnibus Services,
but renamed :
Department of Government Transport that same year.

I understand that each of these departments handled
all NSW tramways (ie Newcastle, Broken Hill etc etc)
and rolling stock was shifted round a bit.

So they are simply referred to as the Sydney Trams!

What was the operating name of the Sydney system?
None of my sources give
a definitive answer.
